The traditional custodians of the N’dhala Gorge/Ross River area join us at Wide Open Space once again. Their involvement with the festival since day 1 gives us the opportunity to celebrate on this land with proper permissions and protocols. The Apmereke-artweye for this site, Mr Damien Ryder invites his family from Lytentye Apurte (Santa Teresa) to the south, as their songline runs right through the site. We take a pause in the middle of the festival, to stop to acknoweldge the culture of this place by watching the men perform ceremonial dance that tell the story of this songline.
Alongside the ceremony there will be bush medicine workshop where you can learn how to use local plants for healing, and a great program of local Indigenous bands.
We thank the Arrente people that have cared for this country for many thousands of years.
