Black Finch is a trio of staunchly cute-tough folk
musicians hailing from the hollows of Melbourne.
After playing too much angry punk music and coming to the realisation that American folk extends beyond Old Crow
Medicine Show, they began to explore the traditions of Appalachian Old Time music.
Grace’s rhythmic fiddle chops are set alight by the burning clawhammer nails of Lali and fiery bluegrass licks of Luke’s guitar. With most of the band growing up in the hills of Northern Rivers NSW, they feel a peculiar connection to the rural music of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bring their own parochial flavour to this music tradition.
The Band has performed at the Fiddlers Convention, the Guildford Banjo Jamboree, Dorrigo Folk and Bluegrass Festival and in Alice Springs, Victoria and NSW. They are set to play at the National Folk Festival in Canberra in 2020 and Luke Byrnes is the 2020 National Folk Fellow.
