2023 Workshops
Anwerne Ingkerrekele Mpwareke : By Us, For Us - Language Session with Children’s Ground
At Ampe-kenhe Ahelhe in Mparntwe we are leading the way in teaching our children our way. We teach them about the Land – from which everything comes – language, lore, culture. Children learn their responsibilities for country and how they are connected to it, their kin and the wider world.
As First Nations people we have a lot of cultural wealth and knowledge, handed down to us over many thousands of years by our ancestors. This knowledge gives us our identity. We want our kids to grow up with resources and media that reflect this culture –that can help them learn to respect, speak, read and write their First Language - something that was denied to many of us and our Elders in the past.
We are using old and new ways to document, teach and keep our language strong. We create resources in Arrernte (Eastern/ Central & Western), Luritja, and Akarre- Akityarre, and present them through books, digital apps, and now music. This workshop will share with you some of our language and culture through our resources.
We are life-long learners and we encourage you to step into our world and learn with us. Come and see the work we do to ensure our language and culture is never lost.
